Whats happening
Calving has begun
Calving season has begun with the birth of a beautiful LL Red Bull calf born to Edna on 19th December. Shiraz surprised us a week early with a gorgeous LL Dun Heifer, born on 4th January. Welcome to Lusatia Park Dexters, “Murray” and “Yarra”. We have 4 more calves expected in the next month, so keep watching to see updates on our new arrivals. This really is the best time of year.
Say hello to Roger
This is our gorgeous Ram – “Roger Ram Jet”, Rodger for short. He is an Australian White ram and he is slowly becoming more friendly and happy to come up for some food and a pat. Roger has just turned 1 and he will be here to service the 7 Wiltipolls we bought last year. Hopefully this time next year there will be some pics of all the baby lambs!
Hay cut and stacked away
Hay cut a little later that expected on 26th December. We had so much grass, and the raked rows were huge.
So happy to get 37 bales off our 7 acres of locked up paddocks.
Big day on the 27th with the raking and baling, and every single bale tucked away safe in the hay shed.
Great to have all this feed for our cows.
Calving season is here
Calving started early this year with Shiraz, our long leg red girl dropping a beautiful long leg dun heifer, ‘Kia’ on the 10th of December. This was followed by Edna giving birth to ‘Audi’, a gorgeous long leg red heifer on the 13th of December. Our dun girl Jana then delivered ‘Mack’, a stunning long leg dun bull calf on the 17th December. One more to come in February & that will be claving done and dusted for 2018/19. Our next girl due is my girl ‘Freckle’ so I have everything crossed for a shortie!!
All these calves will be for sale, and Mack will be kept as a bull for about 12 weeks. If we can’t find a home for him as a bull, he will be steered.
Calving 2018
Our 1st calf for this season has arrived a little earlier than expected by our maiden heifer ‘Shiraz’. Dad is ‘Rolo’, & the calf is short leg dun, just like his dad. This little boy is destined to roam the paddocks for many years. If he is half a nice as his dad, he’ll be an absolute cracker bull.
Hay
We worked with an Agronomist this year, so locked up our paddocks a month later than normal to get more quality than quantity. We were lucky with the weather & our hay was cut, baled & stacked away without any rain around. Storms hit a few days later, so great timing by our contractor.
Calving 2017

We’ve had 4 calves this year & lucky enough to see 3 born. Its always such a great event to watch a new Dexter being born. Its amazing that a young heifer knows exactly what to do & takes such care of her new calf. We joined the worlds best short legged dun bull, Rolo, with 4 cows, 1 which was presold pregnant & we ended up with 3 short legged dun heifer calves & the sold heifer had a long legged dun bull calf. Big run of dun!
Our long legged red bull Clancy, joined with our dun long legged cow Jana, to produce a very strong long legged black steer.
The calves are all now running around the paddocks with their tails in the air. The green grass has turned so Farmer Vik is crawling around on her belly trying to tempt the calves closer with some hay. She has already picked out a favourite!
Calving 2017

Our calving period is finally here. Hershey has delivered a beautiful short legged dun heifer ‘Evie’. The dun calves are spectacular with grey / silver colouring which will change to that fantastic dun. Evie weighed in at 21kg & has a great appetite.
Jana was a few days early with a very strong black long legged bull calf ‘Leroy’ weighing in at a very healthy 25kg. The boys get to their feet & start feeding very quickly. Jana looks fantastic & we now have that great cow humming around the paddocks again.
Weaning 2016
We seperated cows from calves on the weekend & now the sound of little calves fill the quiet night air. All are in really good nick so this allows the mums to have a bit of a rest from feeding before they have a new calf at foot in early January. Spring is such a great time of year & we are so excited that the grass will be shooting skyward very soon.
It is about time for an update!
It has been a while since our last update, life gets busy and all of a sudden it is March! This year we have had 4 beautiful calves. We have 2 long legged red heifers, a short dun heifer, and a long legged dun bull.
This is out beautiful short legged heifer calf Brandy. She is 2 months old and right into the swing of halter training. Brandy is a very special little girl. She is the product of mating Rolo with Cleo, and is going to be just like her sister Freckle. We love the shorties around here, and particularly love the sweet nature of this little girl.
